DID YOU KNOW ...? (40)

It is believed that in 1780, William Addis developed the first mass produced toothbrush. At the time, the handle was made using a cow bone and it had cow tail-hair bristles. Toothbrushes had a deluxe option which was the one with hog hair until 1938 when the use of nylon took over.

SHARPENING SCISSORS

makasCut through some aluminum foil. Place about 6-7 layers of aluminum foil on top of each other and cut through it to sharpen your blunt scissors! If it doesn't end with the result you are after after the first go, do it a few more times and you will be impressed!

kitchen foil
Note: You can also use some sandpaper to sharpen your scissors with. Just cut into some thin layers of sandpaper and see the difference!

Turtles can absorb oxygen through their rectum and it is possible for them to sustain an oxygen supply for an extended period of time through this process. Some call it 'breathing through butt'. Strange, but true!

DID YOU KNOW... ? (26)

Almost every mother can breastfeed successfully. Breastfeeding the baby frequently increases production of milk.

After 6 months of age, when babies begin to eat foods, it is strongly recommended that breastfeeding should continue for up to two years and beyond because it is an important source of nutrition, energy and protection from illness.

CAESAREAN AND OBESITY

There are many researchers proving that kids that are delivered naturally have many advantages over the ones that were born after an operation, C-section. Only one example is that the risk of suffering from asthma is greater in kids that weren't born naturally. However, the topic of today is the link between the birth types and the increased risk of obesity in kids.

According to some research results formed and done in the USA (Boston Children's Hospital), there is a strong link between obesity and the birth type in kids.

The research was published in the Archives of Disease in Childhood magasine and and it was noted there that the process of digestion in people that were born through caesarean changes due to the affects of C-section on the bacteria in the digestive system. When they compared over a thousand kids a quarter of whom were born after a caesarean operation and the rest was born naturally (vaginal birth), it was apparent that the quarter that wasn't born vaginally were fatter and were twice more under the risk of obesity.

This is something to keep in mind especially for those women who have an option of choosing the type of birth they would like to experience at the end of their pregnancies.
